On Monday 9th December at the NSDJRL AGM, Matt Girvan was voted in unanimously as our newest Life Member.
Matt Girvan first became involved in the North Sydney Junior League back in 2006 when he first started assisting with the Development & Junior Rep Squads.
Since then Matt has always had the district first approach when looking to grow the participation of Junior League within the North Sydney which is why when then CEO Greg Florimo and Junior League Administrator Kevin Nichols approached Matt to see if he would be interested in helping re-establish the Lane Cove Tigers in 2011 for the 2012 season Matt jumped at that opportunity.
For the first few Years Matt Was the President, Secretary, Register, Under 6s coach all round helper for Lane Cove to ensure that the club got established and kids in the area had a place to play rugby league on a Saturday Morning.
In 2014 Matt Girvan joined the North Sydney Junior League board where he has been instrumental in helping the district grow over the past six season.
When The Hawks lost their committee and the club was on the verge extension Matt offered up his time and effort to help with clinics ‘Operational activities, School visits, even Saturday morning Bunnings BBQ’s at Dural to help the club survive.
Matt was a key member in meeting the Michael Asensio and Bruce Walker about the establishment of the Ku-ring-gai Cubs and to help them get established.
Over the years Matt has not only volunteered his time with Tigers, Hawks and Cubs but also in assisting with the Development & Junior Rep squads. Matt has been a right hand man to all coaching staff along the way and has helped myself tremendously throughout the years attending games, selections and Statistics and anything else in-between.
Matt has done all this and many more all without having any children or family ties to the Junior League at the time, this shows Matt's true connection and commitment to trying to grow our Junior League and provide an opportunity for people within our district to play footy.
On behalf of the North Sydney Junior League board, I would like to put forward Matt’s nomination for life membership of the Junior League for all his commitment to growing the game in the North Sydney region.
